Creative writing #1 - ART
What started out to be a good morning soon turned into a day of disbelief. It was the eighth day of March, a day I will never forget. Robbie woke up around eight o’clock in the morning just as Rob was returning home from a full night of working. The ground was covered in snow as it continued to heavily fall from the sky. Nine o’clock came and went. I looked at Rob and said, “ that’s weird Art didn’t call this morning, well maybe he decided to stay in Malone because the weather got bad.” So we both decided that was the case. So Robbie, Shannon, and I decided to go to Wendy’s Diner anyway and left around 9:30 am once the drive way was cleared and the car was thawed. Just as I took my last bite Dale, the owner handed me the diner phone and said that I had a phone call. Thinking that was strange I got and the phone and it was Rob. I could barely understand what he was saying. It took him three times of repeating himself for me realize that he was telling me that Art was involved in a car accident. I then hung up the phone and sat in complete disbelief for a second then I told Dale what was going on. He then got me a to-go container and I packed up the rest of Robbie’s pancakes and sausage. I then drove the two seconds back to my house to uncover our blazer from the heavy, wet snow that laid upon it. Once able to open the door I started it to get the inside warm and finished clearing the outside. Once the blazer was ready I transferred Robbie into his seat inside the Blazer. Then I looked at the car where was I going to park it, then I got in and parked it back at the diner and trudged back home through the snow covered walkway. Rob was just walking outside as got to the end of the driveway. We both got in and I dropped Rob and Robbie off at the hospital. Shannon and I then drove to pick up Rob’s brother Ryan and his two daughters who were staying with Art. As I was approaching the house there was the car and the pickup truck that had smashed into him. Emergency personnel were everywhere. Once I was inside the house and looked out the front window I just lost it. It was a horrible scene. The driver side was crushed and had been pushed off the road on an incline. The front of the truck on the driver side was crushed up. Once I calmed down we then headed to the hospital. Rob was standing in the doorway shacking his head as we approached the emergency room entrance. As he told that Art didn’t make it we were all in hysterics. He was a great person to know and great father. The hospital personnel was grieving with us as he was head nurse anesthetist for the hospital. The rest of the day was just a blur of disbelief.
